About Us and Our Approach to Hospitality
Welcome to Saamrus Guest Farm, a tranquil sanctuary nestled in the heart of the Magaliesberg foothills. Founded more than 20 years ago and operated by the Geldenhuys family—Chris, Annatjie, and their son Leonard—Saamrus is a true family-run guest farm.
When you visit Saamrus, you are stepping into a peaceful country escape run with dedicated, hands-on care. Annatjie oversees the daily guest relations and operations. Chris focuses on welcoming our visitors and providing general supervision and maintenance to ensure everything across the property is beautifully kept and running smoothly. Leonard completes the hosting team, splitting his time between assisting with guest reception, handling essential business administration, and managing our on-site shop, Plan B. In the shop, Leonard sells raw, local honey and other beeswax products from his own beekeeping, alongside a selection of quality garden plants and seedlings grown on the farm.
The Four-Legged (True) Bosses
The Four-Legged (True) Bosses: Lulu the Yorkie, at 16 years old and completely deaf, firmly believes she owns the entire farm (and we don't dare argue with her). She often accompanies the staff when they go to clean the cottages, earning her the official title of "Head Supervisor." Rolex & Coco are our two beautiful resident Ridgebacks who take their jobs very seriously, sticking to their strict, twice-daily walking schedule to leave the trails clear for you and your pets. Karel & Katrien are our resident brother-and-sister cat duo, who keep a watchful eye over the farmhouse gardens.
The Heart of Saamrus: Our Team
We believe that exceptional hospitality begins with a dedicated team. We are incredibly proud of our long-term relationships with our staff, who have been an integral part of the Saamrus family for between 13 and 21 years. Trained internally with hands-on expertise over two decades, our team takes immense personal pride in maintaining the cottages, welcoming our visitors, and keeping the property beautiful.
The centre of the Saamrus experience is our private 14-hectare property, where our nine unique self-catering cottages are thoughtfully spaced to ensure maximum privacy and seclusion.
While our cottages rest on our private land, we are privileged to hold access and grazing rights to an additional 500 hectares of pristine, communal grazing land right on our doorstep. We lovingly maintain a scenic network of hiking and river trails across this expansive area, giving our guests and their dogs unparalleled freedom to walk, explore, and spot our prolific local birdlife.
