Bird watching

For the amateur as well as experienced bird watcher.

Saamrus is a bird-watchers paradise.

Birdsongs wake you in the morning and the sunset birdcalls will spice up your  braais in the evenings.

If you’re a serious bird watcher, don’t forget to bring your binoculars and bird books! We have a list of birds of the Magaliesberg area in each cottage and would be delighted if you could tick off some sightings and tell us which birds you saw at Saamrus.

Our cottages at the foot of the hill (Tarentaal, Kiewiet and Hoephoep) have more indigenous trees around and are closer to the river and of course have the most birds around. You will still see enough birds at the cottages on the hill to satisfy you as well.

You’re welcome to bring along some wild bird seed and fruit to feed the birds at your cottage.

We invite amateur and professional photographers to come and photograph our birds.  We would love to have more bird pictures to display on our website!
